Edit: See our uploaded i8910XXIG2 test video for proof of how much better the AAC coded really is on 720p video.
Yes Firmware update i8910xxig2 has been released over the Samsung updater service. So if your after the latest firmware with the latest improvements to battery life and video will now have the AAC codec instead of the AMR codec. There is one catch, you’ll have to be on an Italian unbranded firmware for the samsung updater to work at this stage. This is till Samsung release this update across the global.
Orange users will have to debrand. Our guide to do this is here: Samsung i8910 Omnia HD Debrand tutorial
Our forum also has plenty of info on this. 2mnyshp’s guide on how to get IG2 firmware with video audio fix.
Once the IG2 firmware ROM’s are made public for manual flashing we will have those up for you all to debrand directly to IG2.
Enjoy!

And what about geotagging in the new firmware – does it work ?
July 14, 2009 at 8:34 pm
I’ve tried doing this after a successful update from the Italian firmware, but the Samsung PC Studio failed with some file error just after the phone had blue-screened. Luckily, it hadn’t started to update the firmware by this point, so the phone still works. I had the same problem twice: can’t work out why.
How much free disk space does this process require? I had over 3GB…

Samung Netherlands just today made new firmware available. But that firmware is version I8910XXIF7
I wonder if this is the same firmware as i8910XXIG2 with just another number. The software version date is 15/06/2009. That seems old to me. But until yesterday there was no firmware available on the samsung website. and via PC Studio. So it shoot be the latest

XXIG2 successfully applied yesterday evening
ThX all
I have the feeling the battery life is better
But this is the 1st day only
The phone looks snapier but have not re-installed everything yet
Had to do the audio fix
>>To solve the hiss / high pitch noise issue… in the secret menu: *#0002*28346# – then 3 Records” –
>>then the “4 CamcordAMR_AMR” and modified the first value from 30 of default selected the voice “to 24;
>>Then selected Back – Back – 6 cliccate Back-Up and you will see that Backup appears ok… on exit
>> and stop… Resolved Problem;)
But noticed that volume tricks were already in the XXIG2 fiwrmare
To answer my own above question, yes, it has french and english language pack available

Hi all ive also done the above firmware upgraded i was on orange IE2, i was having alot of troubles with battery life after switching the phone off after it was completely flate and charging it over night 5 or 6 time it seemed to have sorted the battery out but i never get any more than 4 days out of the battery at a push and thats just using the phone at its min may be with a couple of very short calls
i havent noticed that the battery is any better with the new firmware if you check on the forum there are some mods for extending battery like like changing packet data to ‘when needed’ and turning video sharing of..
1 thing that i have noticed is that the bug seems to have gone when you plug it in to the usb , you used to have to switch the phone off then back on again otherwise it used to run down the battery quick that dont seem to happen any more.

Hi, I was using unbranded XXIE7; and … for example, left the phone on with no app running in background, just “online” standby, 5battBars evening, only 3 left in the morning; will have to redo this test
ThX for batt hints; already disabled videoSharing and set “when needed” to packed data. Also stay in GPRS most of the time
Oh dreaming of the day when I can browse the whole day long in 3g and loose only one batt barr
Never had any issue isung the USB on XXIE7 (Pc suite mode or massStorage mode) well … di not noticed anything at least
July 16, 2009 at 3:59 pm
I just phoned Samsung Netherlands and they told me that the XXIG2 firmware is available only via a service Centre, not via PC Suite.
Is this the famous service from Samsung????

Im in the uk and i flashed my uk phone with the italian software off the forum and updated it with the pc suit with know problems only thing i have found is that some of the web bookmarks and widgets go straight to the italian website but its not a biggy cos the phone works so much better
DaWaBZ94 said that you can keep the phone in gprs mode instead of searching for 3G all the time how do you do this any help welcome
July 16, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Hi for gprs stuff goto settings connectivity network , network mode and choose “gsm” hope this helps

Respect to Battery performance when connect to pc studio or storage mass the phone start to drain the battery. and only have battery for around 12 hours, I think this happens because the battery internal circuit loose any battery remain info. when you introduce more charge via USB. I recomend check for updates to the end of the day when you have 1 bar of battery and you can turn off youu phone and charge all nigth and you have at least 2 days of full use in the mornig. Ihave XXIE7

Just installed the latest Italian firmware from the forums. Then tried updating through the PC Studio to get the latest from Samsung. But the computer keeps giving me an error when the phones gone into boot loader…doesn’t quite getting to installing…so phone turns on again after I’ve cleared the error. Anyone know what the problem could be?
July 17, 2009 at 12:16 pm
Scrap the above…got it working by going on another machine that only had the Samsung Studio installed…worked like a charm
July 17, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Congrat!
July 17, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Russ T – only had “Samsung Studio installed”. As opposed to what? Nokia PC Studio? Other bits and pieces from the firmware process? …?
July 18, 2009 at 8:03 am
As opposed to all the other things we install to debrand the phone…the machine I debranded on would not complete the Samsung PC Studio update – to get the most up-to-date firmware etc…so I went on another computer, installed PC Studio, I did not install any of the other stuff needed for debranding. It completed the update no problems (did the offical update on a Vista machine if anyone is interested).

I have updated my phone with latest firmware XXIG2. The phone works amazingly faster & kewl compared to its previous Orange firmware. Can someone please tell me how to find out if the audio is changed to AAC??
July 19, 2009 at 6:55 pm
Hi all,
well a small report on this XXIG2 FW (was previously running XXIE7)
Pros
– IU faster, no doubt
– I’m not an expert but feel that the recorded sound on videos is better
– OperaMini works much better; no more freeze/hang
Cons
– lost widgets and unable to get them/download them from anywhere (wel did not found)
– Battery life was not really a big improvement for me
– Found annoying bug, if I “switch home screen theme” to something else than “Samgung Widgets”,
The four direct function in the botom of the standby screen do not work (Tel/Contacts/Msg/Menu”
– Pressing the botom/left physical buton do not call the callLog apps any more … It only … answers phone calls
– web broser still crashes from time to time
July 21, 2009 at 4:08 pm
WHAT DaWaBZ94?! you actually claiming that there are more faults with the new firmware than that there are improvements?! damn, you better not install this firmware at all..
say, on samsungomniahd dot com theres a news headline, and the message says that samsung is going to do a re-launch for the samsung omnia hd, where they finalize the product and to make the last improvements and internal changes… so best is not to buy this amazing phone yet, but to wait. they stopped mass production just after the first real launch of it. no release date was given yet.
July 22, 2009 at 10:38 am
Hi,
I’m not saying new FW has more faults
just saying it’s not the perfect one yet
I removed and replaced battery and it looks there do is an improvement indeed
But most take my words back abt OperaMini, it still hangs/freezes
Tried to install additional widgets; they fail or do not work properly – well at least th eones I tried
The “C” drive still have ridiculous available space (do not know if this can be adresses in futur releases)
And at last, whatever homeScreen mode, the “answer” buton do not call the “log” utility anymore;
It only answers …
But it was worth the upgrade ; especially abt battery life improvement, general UI perf and video codecs
I’m not a big fan of widgets so … it’s okay for me
July 23, 2009 at 7:47 am
There are 2 things I really do not like abt this marvel of a phone
– unable to switch from 3G to GPRS or GPRS to 3G without first closing all connection
– when a you start a big download in the s60 web browser it stops when the phone goes standby (wlan cx loss) ! this is really annoying !
July 23, 2009 at 3:58 pm
hi every one, i have a problem while updating the phone with PC Studio for the new firmware IG2 : the updating starts well but at 27% it stops and the USB connection looses (the phone is no longer connected to the computer) that’s why the update can’t finish. Any solution please ?
July 24, 2009 at 4:56 am
danis948: this seems to be a result of the software installed to do the initial firmware update. Using a “clean” machine with Samsung PC Studio 7 has worked for several people (though I’ve not got round to trying it yet).
July 24, 2009 at 6:26 am
any have the global date to launch this update
July 24, 2009 at 6:39 am
Hi every one
Ive been doing some testing on the new IG2 software
And have found that eithen tho alot of the other bugs have been fix since going to this updat from IE6 the gps is not as good well to be honest its rubbish i was using my garmin the other day that i all ways use normaly when driving along the road you can flick it on and it will find its locate straight away but not any more since ive updated i eithen tried it at home where i always used to get a good gps signal now no more the lock takes ages has any one else come acrossed this must admite i used my phone as a sat nav alot and i am thinking of flashing back to one of the earlier software versions just so i can get a lock quick
July 24, 2009 at 8:55 am
Hi,
I’m surprised, I’m running XXIG2 and am havine no issue / GPS
Did you use “GPS+” to download GPS datas ?
I got my fix in seconds minutes ago
NokiaMaps works flowlessly
So I’m surprised by your report
July 24, 2009 at 9:05 am
hi thanks for that
do you know how to do a hard reset is it *#7370#
its never been right since i have done the update but i did notice when i updated my phone from the old firmware that not everthing got wiped on the phone im gonna hard reset the phone and format the internal memory and the sd card and install everthing again and see what happen perhaps something got its knickers in a twist
July 24, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Hi,
having played with FW update on nokia devices, it has become a reflex after FW update to first do a *#7370# right after the FW update is done and then install my apps from scratch to make sure I have all fresh installed apps
One more thing, on Omnia HD, when you do a *#73#, it also formats the internal massStorage so if you have important recorded videos or photos, I suggest you backup them before doing the *#7370#
I also read that on 5800 if you changed the default security code, the FW update can hang and you get a brick phone
Might be the same here since same OS but not sure
So just to feel easy on the FW update, I set back the default security code (00000000), then reboot the device before starting any FW upgrade
Hope this helps
July 24, 2009 at 5:44 pm

After debranding my I8910 with “I8910_Sweden_Netherlands_Switzerland_Germany_Italy” firmware I couldn’t update my phone. There is simple solution, uninstall all samsung drivers from your pc (go to control panels, go to add or remove programs and uninstall all samsung drivers) restart your pc and install Pc studio one more time. Now you can update your samsung ( be patient sometimes it does not want connect your phone, just disconnect and try one more time). For me works 100%. Regards to for all who take care about this site

hey all, i have read quite a bit of this page and it seems there is quite a bit wrong with the phone. i have an I8910 and i think the software version is i8910BVIE7 and the software version date is 18/05/09. i tried using the samsung suite disk to update the phone but it says its not compatable. the selling point for the phone was the HD recording, i tried copying the videos to my computer but when i play them the sound doesnt work and the video looks like something from the 80s. i dont know what a secret menu is or what AAC firmare is. if any one has any advice on how to play recorded videos with sound on a computer for a computer simpleton like me i would really appreciate it. thanks guys.
