New Official update to fix 720p audio codec to AAC.
Samsung will soon have a major official firmware update available for Samsung i8910 Omnia HD users, this update will bring us a much needed general update. Which will focus on improved battery life, general speed improvements, new widgets and new games and applications. But biggest fix of all for most users is Samsung will replace the AMR audio codec (which plagued the 720p audio) with a much better AAC audio codec.
As you can see from the media info screenshot above, taken by a German tester of the new firmware. The 720p video is at 24fps, while audio is now a AAC codec, 32000 Hz 16000 Hz, mono @ 512kbs 256kbs (bitrate). Which isn’t too bad. This should give us good audio quality.
Edit: We have since seen a video recorded on the new firmware. And the properties state:

Interesting to note that its 2 channel, does this mean Samsung are not only using the Mic just above the camera lens (That’s the dedicated video mic). but also the microphone for voice calls too? To record stereo?

Soon after, you can upgrade the terminal through PC Studio 7. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. We are confident however that the result will live up to expectations.
We think the update will be either i8910xxig2 or i8910xeig2

LOL. No way will I install Italian firmware. I will go to the shop (T4Telecom) where I bought the phone and ask them how to upgrade the fw.

I flashed my phone now to the newest italian firmware! Now PC Studio tells me that my phone are not supported
. I think i must wait for the IG2 Firmware to flash with symbian flash tool.

Folks its already out !!!!!
Just connected via pc suite and it actually connected and installed new firmware and guess what ——— The audio has vastly improved and it’s in all resolutions not just the highest as thought.
Didn’t have to buy it but phone had already been de branded onto Italian firmware.

Wow. This phone is great. No other comes even close. The video recording is super at 1280×720 and the sound is much better. I think the phone in general is faster as well. I understand the frustration of others still waiting ( I have completely nibbled my nails yesterday waiting for the firmware), but surely samsung will deliver. It doesnt make sens to develop the firmware for one country only, its just a little more waiting probably….

I have updated my phone with latest firmware XXIG2. The phone works amazingly faster & kewl compared to its previous Orange firmware. Can someone please tell me how to find out if the audio is changed to AAC??

When I start PC studio I see to the left my phone with some messeges under it and to the right I see all the options. If i click on update software ( bottom right-hand corner) I get the message that he’s downloading the update. Then a new screen pops up to install the update on the phone, when I click start it says ‘phone not connected’
Can anyone help me plz?

Just updated PC Studio 7 by clicking on update icon and then ran the update with phone set to PC Studio and ………. “updater does not support this phone model”. Not happy. I have emailed Samsung but don’t expect much back. Unless a miracle happens before my contract expires I won’t touch Samsung again. Useless.

Thats because your phone’s firmware doesn’t have an update yet , me having the same problem with the UAE firmware .

Re: Updater does not support this phone model. ….According to Samsung Technical Dept. This is a misleading message which should more correctly have said there is no firmware upgrade yet available for download. I was told that the updater does support the i8910HD & Samsung agreed that the message is misleading. I was told that they are hoping to have the updated firmware available for download soon (whatever soon means).

Hello, I’m trying to update my omnia HD unlocked via the PC studio 7 but it gives me the following messages after i click the ‘START’ button on the software updater-symbian page:
The connection between the phone and PC has been updated.
update incomplete
Please try again after removing and reconnecting the USB cable first.
What am i doing wrong? please help me!!

Hi,
I read people talking about media info on samsung i8910, I need to know if anyone can tell me how to view and check my codec, if I’m using AAC or AMR.
also, how do I chechk if my memory RAM is more or less after upgrading to a different firmware, any software that would tell me these info?

Monckeee, just record a video, when the sound is horrible, you have the AMR codec, when the sound is good/normal then you have the AAC codec… and trust me you WILL notice the difference… just search for omnia hd samples on YouTube, you will see what I mean

Even with AAC the sound is shit! Ok its an improvement over the AMR codec, but still….

i have a stone of samsung. really i cannot update it
even cannot find a website to update.
such a big brand with such a big stone on the market.
