How to flash and debrand your Samsung i8910 HD – Samsung i8910 Omnia HD Debrand Tutorial.
Firstly in order to flash your i8910, you’ll need to be running windows XP. So its advisable to find a XP machine or a way to run XP. I’ve set up a dual boot Vista with XP on another partition for flashing my i8910.
Here are the following drivers and flashing program were going to use, please download these:
Microsoft Msxml.msi I8910 Flashing drivers (Install all of these) Symbian ROM flashing tool 1.50 Get the latest firmware from this thread in our forum: Latest Samsung i8910 Omnia HD Firmwares
Ok first off, install Microsoft’s MS XML, the Symbian ROM flashing tool will need this. Then install the i8910 HD Flashing drivers. At this point it might pay to reset your machine to insure the drivers install correctly.
Now assuming you’ve downloaded an extracted the latest i8910 firmware to your desktop, start the Symbian ROM flashing tool 1.50
Firstly a warning, before we flash the phone. Make sure its full charged. Please note that flashing your phone will void your warranty. Also do not disconnect your phone or power off your computer when flashing! Otherwise you will have yourself a nice shiny black brick.
With the Symbian Flash tool 1.50 open, browser to your downloaded firmware files. As per the image above!
Select the Code files first, open the folder marked CODE_I8910XXIE6 for example and select the CODE_I8910XXIE6.xml file. Now select the CSC Xml, browser to the download firmware folder CSC_I8910XXIE6 for example and select. Select the modem BIN file, normally in the root of the firmware folder or in Modem_XXIE7 for example. Now your i8910 needs to enter boot mode. Now with your phone off, hold volume up and the hold/menu button (right side top button), then the power button. Keep holding these 3 buttons down and you will enter boot mode. A blue screen. now connect your i8910 HD to your PC via USB. Finally number 5 should appear as Start download, begin to flash your phone. It takes about 5 minutes.
Depending on what firmware you flashed, it might boot up in Russian for example. Browse to the phones settings logo,(looks like a cog) then the personalise phone logo. Later look for a flag logo, thats the language setting. Find and select English and your phone will reboot. Done! Enjoy your free debranded and new firmware version.
*Note this is all free, We believe users should not have to pay to debrand or flash new firmware. None of the files used were sourced from paid firmware or debrand sites.

Messaging setting – message center in use is in russian and says “[Russion] SIM”. I’m on Orange. Is this OK. Do I need to change it and if so how, there are no other options. Apart from that how do I uninstall some of the existing useless applications any ideas?

It worked for me with the Russian on my Orange branded phone, had a mild stroke when the ‘no.5′ button stayed grey (was using 1.52 then 1.51 finally 1.50 worked just fine). Been playing all day with it at work and is much quicker with real programs . The route 66 map picked up my road outside work, something my latest Tomtom navigator map doesn’t!!

I don’t understand something here, As far as I can see local symbian developers are fixing couple of bugs and they are publishing new firmwares themselves. You guys all install those firmwares right? I am a programmer as well… let me tell you something…
How do you know that local developer put a kind of Trojan in the firmware and all people that installs that gets infected? For ex, how would you know when you logon your email password from your phone that also send info to his account from backround ?? Same for anything could be done, he can get who did you sent text messages to ? Who did you call? Which website did you visit? how many people in your contact list, who did you speak when where? where are you know? He can get millions of information by the firmwares you guys installing without thinking!!!
If all those firmwares are NOT offical DO NOT USE IT!!!

i have vista, and the way i got it is with virtualbox…..you will need windows xp cd or iso file though, and a cd key for it to run…but this way it works on vista and i have the new firmware!

I want to do this sooooo badly, but im just worried about a few things.
1: Im worried about bricking my phone which took me ages of saving up to get. and 2: How will this affect my contract with Orange, will they realise its been debranded? Will all network functionality remain? calling/messaging and more importantly internet – Will Orange Internet and Orange GPRS remain? and 3: How will this affect my insurance? Can I re-install the Orange firmware if i ever needed to send it back? 4: How can you tell a USB1.0 and USB2.0 apart?

I have the Same Faulure. The biggest Problem is, that i cant get back to the boot screen. When i put the Battery out and put i back in, nothing happen. If i Push the three buttons to get into the boot menu, the Cellphone vibrates shortly and the Sing is there again. What can i do to reset it or to get back into the boot screen?

Decustomization or Debranding: This removes not only a provider placed lock but also its annoying logos ( think Vodafone ), predefined themes, images, sounds, locked WAP profiles and links. Debranding gives your phone a brand new look plus frees up its memory (if you care). So I’m guessing Debranding also Unlocks the phone?!!
also had the stuck at binary downloading -1% percent problem at first try
then simply disconnected the phone and flashed it again ..previously did a quick xp reboot and used a different USB port on 2nd try…since then the update went smooth n flawless
after this i could connect with pc suite updater ..had to use the exe though -> (FUSUpdater.exe)… had problems with the internal pc suite updater… so i used (FUSUpdater.exe) …and finally got to the haily grail …aka IG2 firmware…
it works much thanks to the lil tutorial here …and much thanks for everthign else..
p.s. AAC codec is much better but it should be 32 khz ..it would be even better but still its better than before way better

i can’t find my ordinary widgets like weatherbug and other’s i like’d before the update, can someone upload it somewhere and maybe mail me please? i know that many will look for them after the update, download them to you’r phone before you guys do the update..

Hi all, well a small report on this XXIG2 FW (was previously running XXIE7) Pros – IU faster, no doubt – I’m not an expert but feel that the recorded sound on videos is better – OperaMini works much better; no more freeze/hang Cons – lost widgets and unable to get them/download them from anywhere (wel did not found) – Battery life was not really a big improvement for me – Found annoying bug, if I “switch home screen theme” to something else than “Samgung Widgets”, The four direct function in the botom of the standby screen do not work (Tel/Contacts/Msg/Menu” – Pressing the botom/left physical buton do not call the callLog apps any more … It only … answers phone calls – web broser still crashes from time to time

I removed and replaced battery and it looks there do is an improvement indeed
But must take my words back abt OperaMini, it still hangs/freezes
Tried to install additional widgets; they fail or do not work properly – well at least the ones I tried
The “C” drive still have ridiculous available space (do not know if this can be adresses in futur releases)
And at last, whatever homeScreen mode, the “answer” buton do not call the “log” utility anymore; It only answers …
But it was worth the upgrade ; especially abt battery life improvement, general UI perf and video codecs

Hi, I don’t have my laptop with me but when you run the desktop pc studio app, check in menusn there is an option like “update phone software” or similar; hit that one and the update apps will launch

There are 2 things I really do not like abt this marvel of a phone – unable to switch from 3G to GPRS or GPRS to 3G without first closing all connection – when a you start a big download in the s60 web browser it stops when the phone goes standby (wlan cx loss) ! this is really annoying !

hi managed to get the new italian firmware onto phone – but have noticed that when recording with phone’s video camera there is now a high pitched noise when i replay it back on the phone – it was fine with the original italian firmware. I found that i had to disconnect the phone from the usb quite a few times before i could update to new software update on the pc.

how do i run the flash tool software? i downloaded the msxml file and installed, the flash tool software still doesn’t open/run. there’ll be DOS cmd window pop up for less than one second and disappears, then nothing happens.
problem solved, i used a downloader to download those files. don’t use a downloader to download those files thats it.
hi just to let u know, a website i used for unlocking my i8910 was http://www.thephoneunlockers.com. it cost me £14 through paypal(i think paypal auto converts money if u got a visa card or account), and was all done over the net. i got the email with the unlock code within 10 hours so it was really quick to. so i cant see why it wont work for you. hope this helps

ive found the CODE, CSC, and BIN files and extracted them. my only problem is the drivers i think

Thanks a lot for this site – Using the tools and firmware here I’ve just successfully debranded my phone from Orange UK using the Italian firmware.
After that I used Samsung PC Studio 7 to grab the latest firmware update which you can’t do with the Orange firmware.

Just one small problem, when i try to use the ‘upload to web’ option, it prompts me for my user name and password for facebook. No worries. I put it in, and hit ‘verify’. the app then closes. Does this every time. Any ideas?
Tried going into the settings of the uploader, with the same result. Not sure if it des the same with other social networks, i on ly have a password and username for FB.
Im using the Swiss firmware.
OH! and i can no longer update my phone using the PC suite, tho i get a feeling this is to be expected.

Thank you so very much for the tutorial and information on Flashing the phone. I’d just bought this phone today – and found the camera menus were all squares or noughts, or zeros – whatever you will. Any ways, this definitely made the camera menu and video menu appear in english. Don’t know what else it fixed, but for that alone – thank you very much

If you are on Vista and parts of samsung studio doesnt work go to uninstall studio 7 and say yes it will prompt you to uninstall or repair. Repair and studio should then work .

@craigybaby: cause the folder nbl1 is still missing. u have to download NBL1.bin, NBL1.dummy, NBL2.bin and NBL2.dummy
Excellent tutorial. I was running Win 7 so had to get hold of Windows XP Mode (it’s free for Win 7 Users) and then installed the above. One point missing is that you need to untick the “Boot” option, or else at times you might get an error saying you have a missing boot file,etc.
I had an Indian HD and easily upgraded to Italian11 ROM with no issues. (just the time spent in downloading the XP mode stuff,etc).

I’ve followed all the steps to debranding my Orange locked i8910 biut i get an error saying that the loading couldnt start becuase it could find CODE_I8910XXII1.xml. Its definitly in he folder tho. Have updated firmware on other samsungs before but having loads of trouble with this one. Does the debranding unlock the phone or do i need to do this first? Sorry if it’s a stupid noob question
Have tried again. The error message is PDA_CODE_I8910XXII1\uboot\I8910XXII1_XXX.ubootldr.img could not be found. Hmmmmm…….
Yep I got exactly the same set of error message as the last post (12:01pm). I suspect it’s to do with the firmware files. What I thought was an incorrectly named .img file told me was too big for the destination participation so I just left it! Again I’m a noob to this so could be talking out my backside! Anyone offer any advice?

I got it to work, and the issue is indeed the firmware source files. I’ve found a few links in here to files that don’t appear to have the same structure and file names that the flashing tool requires. My experience the last few weeks is to bite the bullet and pay the 15 euros to get access to the one file download site as the source files are spot on. When you unzip the RAR files it does destroy the sub folder structure the flashing tool needs (read the full error message). Use the error messages from the flashing tool to build the sub file pathway structure it needs. I got it to work without a single hassle once I’d sorted the file pathways, and I can honestly say it’s worth it if you currently have the Orange firmware. Disgusting how they have crippled the phone, it really is. Briggs, great tutorial it’s been a HUGE help.
This is mainly for Richard but anybody else feel free to comment – the missing sub file pathway i believe was to do with the fact i was missing the I8910XXII1_XXX.ubootldr.img from my original download. Since then i’ve downloaded a cooked ROM from HyperX which contained this file/file pathway. If i move this across into the folder containing the Italian firmware, will that correct the error message? In theory, i think if i include the file that is missing it should work? Cheers in advance
MyKib, I wouldn’t like to comment about whether taking the I8910XXII1_XXX.ubootldr.img from one firmware will work with another. My technical abilities stretch to getting things working rather than the underpinning nuts and bolts! What I found also was that you will get half a dozen or so additional error messages relating to the need for a sub folder structure needed by the flashing tool in your root directory. Unzipping destroys the folder structures. Create the pathways according to the error messages and distribute the files accordingly. Worked a treat for me. Although obviously the query about the img file sourced from elsewhere would need confirming before you started. Too nice a phone to brick!

hi guys… i debranded my i8910 to get rid of all that orange crap now i want to upgrade new italian firmewere the debranding was ok a bit nervy the question is.. this firmewere comes in two parts when extracted they look the same if i try to put them in the same folder it says do you want to overide files because there the same.. what part 1 or 2 do i put in the rom flasher code mxl csc mxl modem bin.. also do i uncheck the boot tick in download

Sounds like it is blocked. Had exactly the same problem after buying a second hand i8910. Usually people doing an insurance scam to get some quick cash and a brand new phone:(
Assuming your in the UK, theres nothing that can be done, blocked phones are presumed stolen and its illegal to unblock them unless you are the original owner or accidentally blocked it yourself etc:(
While it is possible to unlock it and use it on another network, but you would need it to be unblocked to do this in the first place:( Best thing you could do is try to return it/get a replacement, and if all else fails, and you have proof of purchase, then it *might* be possible to unblock it at a phone shop.

i did the firmware up date with the itailain and it worked perfect for me and was sooo easy to do, i then went to the pc studio and did an update n the software updated my phone to the newest firmware n i love all thats new, other than the video recordin is still a bit slugish

hey matey i dnt no if u have sorted or not but if u aint, all u have to do is download winrar, then the firmware uve have downloaded wat r in 2 parts put them on the desk top, then right click on one of them and extract….. and it will join both files into one, then u may continue with this Tutorial

yeah i had the same flashing with the generic russian, just take the battery out. anyhow the freeze on step 5 seems a common problem. after an hour or so of moving files, disconnecting/reconnecting the phone it suddenly worked fine. shame is i got a new one today and it’s doing the same. i think it relates to the IRQ’s or COM settings on the PC

I will be getting the i8910 HD next week from Orange and want to remove the Orange rubbish on it. Can you please tell me which would be the best firmware for me to use, I have downloaded the generic Italy firmware XXIG2 but im not sure if this is the wright one to use as I seem to remember reading somware that you have to use an older version first? Can you please advice me on this?

I spoke to Orange a few days ago to do my upgrade to the Samsung i8910 HD, I got a very big surprise Orange have WITH DRAWN the phone and it seems there are no plans for them to have any more stock now or ever, has any one else heard about this? not sure what to upgrade to now.

No matter if you bought your phone yesterday there might be software version from May last year, because in many countries there is only initial release, no updates at all so far. Second you have to forget about updating your firmware via PC studio for now, almost every time it says "phone not supported", only few firmwares so far were recognised via PC studio, such a shame for Samsung even if they bought it from Nokia they didn't manage to make it work!!! If you decide to update your software you should see tutorial on this forum of how to do it, and you can safely do that yourself within just few minutes. I suggest you to pick some from HX Releases, they are stable and fast now, or choose some of these JA versions which are around for a while now (so called betas even if I don't understand how a leaked beta firmware can be read by PC studio (like UK IL5). Yesterday I decided that enough was enough, I couldn’t put up with the annoying Orange firmware any longer so I flashed my phone to the latest Italian Firmware using the guide above.
To begin with, all was rosey! Firmware worked a treat and the phone was noticeably quicker and all round nicer to use. Then, however, just like Cinderella, pretty much at the stroke of midnight (whether this is a coincidence or not I don’t know) it decided it was going to completely stop working!
At first it just stopped connecting to my WLAN so I decided to do the good old, off ‘n’ on, which seemingly solves everything. This time though, no. The phone just simple won’t boot up. It gets as far as the ‘Samsung’ loading screen with the little blue bar underneath, giving the impression that it’s loading and then just stays on it for a few minutes before it just stops doing anything.
PLEEEEASE can someone help, if at all possible. As much as I like my i8910hd, I don’t want to keep it as a paperweight.

3. For several hours phone got connected but nothing happened..
