Since the latest Italian firmware i8910XXIH1 or whatever it will be has been delayed, I have flash the most recent available firmware which is the generic Hong Kong branded firmware – I8910ZXIG4. This latest firmware has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. As posted in our i8910 Omnia HD user forum I have tested I8910ZXIG4 and here are my findings:
Things I’ve noticed:
- We now have letters on the dialer, unlike IG2. But still no quick way of bringing up contacts by keying the number that corresponds with the letter / name.
- More free ram. Around 170mb free now just after a reset
- Faster than i8910XXiG2
- Supports 3 Chinese languages and English only. Will boot up in Chinese but you just change it to English.
- Browser stop bug fixed. (That was also fixed in G3 I think!)
- The S60 web browser, is faster and more responsive to touch. Must be a newer/better build Vs IG2.
- Wifi works well. Even with low signal I can connect.
- A few megabytes more of free C drive (36mb aprox phone memory)
- 720p video is smoother. Other users have reported this too.
- Improved battery life over
the Italian IG2- GPS lock is the same as IG2 – Very fast and I can get full strength GPS signal even indoors.
Negatives of this
firmware:
- No games installed. I guess they had no Chinese versions. No biggie for me as the games were just trials anyway.
So if your impatient like I am and can’t wait for further delayes to the newest Italian IH* firmware. I suggest users give this firmware a go!

Only downside is the camera and camcorder menus dont change to english
August 26, 2009 at 12:17 am
That’s incorrect, everything is in English. Camcorder and camera is 100% English. I have not seen any Chinese letters.

Yes, I believe I have the earlier version of the Honk Kong Firmware. i8910ZXIG2.
Same problem with the camera / video camera I just get the first letter for each button and squares for the rest of the characters. ie: “C—–” (With squares replacing the dashes) instead of the word “Camera”. Any clues how to fix this?

Hi Briggs.
Probably a stupid question but do I need to install all the firmware upgrades or will the latest one (IG4) cover everything from the previous updates?
August 27, 2009 at 11:46 am
Just the one update will get you to IG4
September 2, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Thanks Briggs,
Can you reccommend which is the best firmware. After having read these posts just now I’m not so sure the IG 4 is the best option.

I installed IG4 but I have huge problems with it….first everything looked OK, but after a while (10 min or so) Omnia HD freezes and that is it….I couldn’t turn it off, so I needed to put battery out…..after that I wanted to turn the phone on but it stops. I just get to the logo of Samsung and that was it….So now I have IG3 Switzerland and looks OK…..If you have any suggestions for me please help with IG4…. Thanks

WOW is this supposed to be continued? Samsung is releasing more firmwares for this device. First time i got this one with xxxIF8 (something old i can’t remember) and got problem with signal reception then returned to the shop. Guys overthere told me they refused to update to new firmware for the reason is it might got dead (become a brick). Luckily they gave me a new one with xxxIG2. Now i want to update the firmware myself but i am worried. Is it that much risk? Thank you.

Well…just flashed mine…solely for the HD recording “improvement”…bad news is there is only a subtle improvement…slowly going from left to right still has a framedropout…checking a video i just recorded outside on a sunny day the frames drop from 24fps to 20fps…so theres still a jerk sadly with me. Frustrating as it would make this a killer IF they sort the Hd video out.
August 28, 2009 at 5:58 am
You flashed to this new firmware and still got 20fps instead of 24fps?
August 28, 2009 at 4:32 am
how do you change the langague on the hong kong firm ware please
August 28, 2009 at 7:35 am
Remember how the Icons look like on your current firmware and after flashing pick the same icons to get to language settings and that’s it…..Hope this helps

Briggs, how you doing? Look mate I bought a Samsung Omnia HD, and I’m having a few problems. First off, most of my calls keep getting disconnected. I can only talk to a person for about 60 seconds. I’m not sure why it’s happening. Plus, I’m finding the battery is just going out way too quick. Is it because I haven’t charged it properly? Or perhaps I need a new battery? Plus just wondering, does this firmware upgrade also fix up the audio recorded in a video? If you could just get back tome with details it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million mate. You’re a champ.

im not Briggs maybe I can help… Ok the problem for disconnecting youre calls because its a touch phone sometimes accedentaly when you put it on your ear you dont know you touch the end call by youre face…
about battery
1 you must go to setting then connectivity go to video sharing and turn it off
2 set youre phone to GSM go to setting then connectivity then network use gsm mode it you want 3G set it to dual mode to have a video call…
3 go to setting connectivity again admin setting then packet data set it to when needed or if you want more life for battery use the basic mode
how… go to setting, personal , home screen then set it to basic mode
4 setting, phone, then display anto brightness turn it off and dim time turn it off
OK gudluck…

sorry for mah ENGLISH
December 16, 2009 at 11:03 pm
hey mike, the reason for the disconnection of calls, can not be the touch, because omnia touch screen is locked n works only when u hold ur lock button while in call, it also displays there. so no question of accidently touching, there must be some other reason.

hi there,
I bought my samsung i8910 3 days ago from ebay. sent from hong kong with aussie brand on it called optus. I know nothing about phones and now find myself rather confused………
I do not know what flashing is, or what firmware is, or what either does. I do know that i cannot update adobe flash 10 because symbian is not an option to select as an operating system
i cannot install applications, battery only lasts a day, even though i have not used it
if i try and record hd for more than 5 mins, the phone switches itself off and does not save the video, and i wouldnt have the slightest clue how to even put a movie onto the phone
if someone coud help me out i would be greatly appreciate it, and would save my wife from shooting me over spending £400 on a phone that “doesnt work”
