New Samsung i8910 Omnia HD users: Post your thoughts

omnia-hd-back-shot

With the Omnia HD released now in several countries and leaking out across Europe. Were interested in hearing from anyone that has the new Omnia HD if you would be so kind as to post your thoughts on the new Samsung Omnia HD, First impressions etc, here or in our forum. Thank you!

We’re still waiting for our Omnia HD to arrive, but if anyone is lucky enough to have one. We have a few niggling questions. We have heard reports that the 720p video’s audio codec is of low quality. A AMR codec and only recording at 8mhz sample rate & 128mpbs. Can anyone confirm the recorded videos audio quality?

Also the battery cover, is it fixed firmly or flimsy?

Digg!

wifi is for short range wireless Internet connection, like one you have at home, coffee shops, and few other hot spots.

When is this I8910 coming to the U.S.? I’ve been waiting for months…

Mine is great, wi-fi works just fine but I do have a problem with the media player. Every song skips around 4 seconds and it will not play podcasts. It just doesn’t recognise them unless I play them through File Manager. Also, some songs start playing for approx 10 seconds then fast forward to the end and will not play any more. Weird.

to correct the txt problem you need to delete you contacts from you sim card. Make sure you copy your contacts to the phone first!!!

Is anyone having problems with podcasts? For some reason, I have about 20 files in my media album>images and video with the name “APoddirectory.” I have never used the Podcast application on my phone, but after some googling, i’ve found out that these random files relate to podcasts! The problem is that these files will not be deleted! They’re locked onto my phone! GRRRRrrrrr!

sent mine back to be repaired, waited 2 weeks for it to come back not fixed, so has gone away again.

mine will not set the time to GMT 0.00 only GMT +1.00 so time is always an hour wrong.
the screen is positioned 2mm to far to the left so there is a big gap down the right side.
and had frozen pixels in the screen.

i had the problem with the names and numbers and yes as said you just need to change the way your saving your contacts.

Think I may have found the cause for the battery to drain quickly.
Has been happening on and off for the last few weeks, one minute fully charged next minute dropping quickly.
Well charged it last night and after 2 hours this morning and a few text messages I lost 2 bars of battery.
So turned the phone off, opened it up, reseated the SIM card and then reseated the battery. Would not turn on. After several minutes of f’in and blinding I started using my analytical skills. Was working, took battery out now not working. Battery definitely had charge. So I plugged it into my usb to see if I can charge the battery incase for some reason the battery fully discharged.
At least then I can get the phone up and running and see if it charges or not. This would determine if it was the battery. But had an interesting error message come up which said “Battery not connected”.
So this lead me to look at the connectors. I get a feeling that they were barely touching the connectors of the battery. Using my finger I have pushed the connectors up a bit. Put the battery back in. Turned it on, it is now reading a full charge and is staying on.
I am guessing that the rapid discharge of the phone is because of these connectors not touching quite enough causing the rapid discharge of the battery over such a short usage time span.
Seems to be working fine now.
Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Hi yes I also have a major problem with the battery. I have had this phone 1 day and have charged it twice. The last time I charged it was tonight at 7 pm, it has now only 3 bars left on the battery being on standby.
That is a total joke and renders the phone useless for me. Now I have to decide to send it back or update the freeware which could invalidate the warrenty.
Lovely phone, but the battery makes it a complete waste of time

Battery solution – I found that when you charge the phone through the PC with the USB cable the battery capacity lasts much longer than if charged through the normal phone charger.

overall its a nice phone, execellent hd recording, sound but there are few problems (1) phone gets frozen when you open media files. (2) There is mark all and unmark option but what a shame that samsung didn’t put mark several option init. (3) battery nevers charge properly and last you few hours. I am returning this phone back to orange and getting samsung jet s8000 instead. GOOOD LUCK

OK, so I got my phone today, charged it and I was impressed with the video, camera and media player… However, most of the features that are shown in the Tutorial video that accompany the phone are not even available thanks to Orange ! ! !

So as I have 7 days to return it, and cancel the contract it is going back, as I have been mis-sold the phone/features of this otherwise cracking handset.

I guess, the free upgrade to an iPhone 3Gs is the only way to go…. Back to O2 !

I am on the 4th phone now will be the 5th by nxt week, when you dial out it gives you the option to press and hold the lock keys for in call functions, this is a good idea but the backlight stays on for a milli second so if you aint quick enough you lost the call and all you get is a blank screen!, no chance if you are diallig a firm which gives you the 1,2 and 3 options also on the voicemail, you are looking on a blank screen and cant do nowt about it, this is the scary thing, been on to orange, they only replace it with no feedback!,so am carrying round half a house brick spending my time in phone booths, paying 35 quid a month (with extra insurence) cant get released from the contract either so have got another 12 months of looking at a blank screen, by the way orange charge you 15 quid for handling charges on every change of phone!
I abide by their terms and conditions of contract but what use is the half brick to me if it dont work!
    Cant fault the camera though

i am about to recieve my 4th, or maybe 5th version of this phone.
the first one, stopped working after 2 days, touch screen just didnt operate anymore.
the second one i think stopped charging, and this one the screen has cracked ( probably my own fault rather than the weakness of the screen )
i have found it difficult to find covers for the phone which scratches easily,
also have had the problems with the aPoddirectory,
also had the problems with the battery not lasting very well,
as well as having a very unresponsive phone alot of the time.
i think that overall its not worth getting. orange are charging me £170 for a replacement even though they have acknowledged that alot of the faults were through no fault of my own.
