Not sure if this is a direct result of the Samsung i8910 HD Petition that was started, however its something to be thankful for. Samsung have finally announced that they will be releasing a new official firmware come January 2010. First up we will have kentic scrolling over the whole phone’s OS, not just the browser as in the current firmware. Also were going to see a new Media Graphics Engine, this will improve the whole media playback speed and I assume this means a faster gallery and photo browser?
No mention of the 720p video now being a flat 24fps, which leads me to beleive that maybe its a hardware limitation. Which is why Samsung cannot give us a flat 24fps on our 720p video recordings. Instead 22 aprox fps will be our maxing frames per second.
Here’s the official list of changes:
-Webkit update: A faster user-interface when online, for swift navigation of your favourite websites
-Graphic engine: An improved graphic engine, increasing the speed to access the multimedia content
-Kinetic scrolling: The addition of a kinetic scrolling system provides a superior full-touch experience
Lets hope there are also some behind the scene fixes as well.

IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN UPDATE VIA PC STUDIO TO THE FIRMWARE THAT JUST GOT RELEASED ON 11 feb. i currently havesoftware version i8910DXIG2 AND IT ALSO SAYS CUSTOM VERSION I8910XMEIG3. can i update to JB1 firmware via pc studio.
plz help
February 13, 2010 at 9:24 pm
No, you can’t..
This is because every fw released by Samsung is region based, so the JB1 is only avalible (as far as i know) for italian users as off right now.. Contact your local support and ask for the latest fw code for your region. I think I8910XXII2 should be an alternative.

do you suggest i flash to HX 2.03 speed?
February 14, 2010 at 2:24 pm
This could void your warranty, but take a backup of the original fw so you could flash back if you need repairs.. I’ve not tried any HX yet, but from what i see and read on the net, people love It and will never go back to official releases again.
February 14, 2010 at 3:42 pm
@ Michael. How do you back up your original firmware please?
February 14, 2010 at 8:22 pm
i would also like to know, micheal how can i backup my original firmware?
February 15, 2010 at 10:12 am
Find your original fw on the web, pages like samsung-firmware .tk etc.
You need a flashing tool, so you can go back and forth with fw’s..
February 15, 2010 at 8:57 am
hi again i need help, sorry if im beeing a pain with these questions, can i still flash to JB1 firmware even if i dont have previous italian firmware using the flashing tool.
thnx in adv
February 15, 2010 at 10:17 am
Using a flashing tool, you can flash to which fw you like.. but I’m uncertain about how the language setting would get flashing unoffical.

February 15, 2010 at 10:20 pm
Can anyone tell me where the firmware upgrade is that should have come out in January?
February 15, 2010 at 11:10 pm
Just like to say that after much research and patiently waiting to get new official firmware I , like Arsian, flashed my phone to hx 2.03. On their web site it is all there , the software and instructions. I took took the plunge sweating that my phone would become a expensive paperweight but within ten minutes my phone was reborn. It is quicker, sleeker, all the ovi store apps work on it ( even though there are only prob about half a dozen you would use all the time which makes me laugh when i see over a thousand iphone apps!). The camera and video is slightly improved but hey still a superb cam phone more memory space and prob more improvments I have not even found yetEven more amazing is the guys who did the hx roms did not charge a thing . It puts my faith back into programmers!
Give it a try , you can always go back !!!

February 16, 2010 at 2:33 am
@terry. is the kinetic scroll in music player slow and laggy on HX 2.02
February 16, 2010 at 11:19 am
@ Guys currently on HX,
Do you know of a HX flashing tutorial website? Do we still need to flash to Italian then HX or straight from official FW to HX?
February 16, 2010 at 2:45 pm
Hi Seth,
When i flashed mine, i was originally on the Official crap FW, and then flashed to the Itallian Firmware. After reading all the reviews and being let down my Samsung, i decided to flash to HX, at present i am using 2.02, and i think its fantastic. Tempted to go over to the 2.03, but im not sure on the benefits.
What i would recommend is Google HyperX and the first link will go to his site. There you find all the downloads and the tutorial on how to Flash. I would advise reading it very carefully to make sure you dont Brick your phone.
February 16, 2010 at 4:08 pm
Wait which is better? HX 2.02 or HX 2.03? whats the difference? only question is, does it support multitask? thanks
February 16, 2010 at 5:03 pm
Well here we are….. Samsung have forsaken us for their new Bada phone the Wave – which does sound as though its nearly as powerfull and as beautiful as our beloved i8910. I can understand them consentrating on their new way forward but that does little for us lot who have parted with, actually a lot of money.
Anyway HX is great. 2.02 is nice and fast and slick and all of that. 2.03 is even faster and only lacks the 3D taskmanager. I can live without it. See HX’s site. All explanations, run throughs, tutorials, links and downloads are there.
If you flash HX then you will be able to download and install the compatible apps in the ovi store. I can help anyone who needs the correct .sis ovi store file for the i8910.
Without HX you have an abismal few apps to use but still a phone that looks beautiful – especially with a good pic on the homescreen, plays movies very well, and although it has its shortcomings it IS still the only phone that shoots video in HD! Oh and it makes phonecalls too.
Long live the i8910HD!!
February 16, 2010 at 5:53 pm
Check out for SAMSUNG WAVE: Super AMOLED screen ( 5x more vivid than a typical AMOLED screen and 20% improved brightness when used outdoors) and 720p @ 30fps.
February 17, 2010 at 8:04 am
Still thinking about flashing mine with the HX2.03, but I have a question, I live in Denmark so my phone is with the nordic software, is it possible to flash it, and still have my Danish T9 and language in the menus?
February 17, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Hi Thomas B,
I can let you know that the HX2.02 is deff available with Danish T9 and language across the whole phone. I will be updating my FW shortly as i have found the HX firmware has been updated since i last flashed.
You can flash your phone with any FW from any FW, just make sure you read all the instructions before you do.
February 17, 2010 at 5:39 pm
to “i need help” the kenetic scroll on album art and music search is fine and to “arsien” my battery life has doubled! and i use the phone for everything especially when I am in the pub showing it off to all the blackberry and iphone users as it now does everything theres does and more(of course they all think I am a bit of a looser!). I think the coolest app is sky by mobile . My garmin app works perfectly too. I might go to hx 2.03 or wait for protx to be debugged as hyperx is pushing the limits with that one.
February 17, 2010 at 11:21 pm
[...] Kinetic scrolling: A mush have among smart phones is missing. Although Samsung seems to have promised a firmware update with Kinetic scrolling very soon. [...]
February 18, 2010 at 9:38 am
Guys i flashed to HX 2.02 just recently and all was well until today. i experienced problem with apps replacing other apps and apps taking the icons of other apps. So i read that if you intall java 2.02 beta it will fix the problem. And to my surprise it did. however after a fe hours everytime i want to open a java app i get the error saying: “Application start-up failed. Internal error”. I am really worried somethiig is wrong. Please guys if anyone has a solution please post it.
Thanks in advance
February 21, 2010 at 8:10 pm
Thomas B: Ja flash bare til Hyperx. But if you have a 16GB then keep to 2.00, because there are bugs in it that don’t compy with the 16GB version.
Or wait until he finishes 2.1 speed, it is coming soon.
February 22, 2010 at 10:22 am
I for one will not be checking out the Samsung Wave, as after this experience i shall not be checking out Samsung again! Sad to say, espeically as im a big Chelsea supporter, but have been really disappointed with the experience of i8910.
But i have flashed it with HX Speed and that is pretty good. gonna run this phone into the ground and get a new one in the summer.

February 24, 2010 at 6:49 pm
From Samsung: update 2Q. We have to wait a few months more – May/June.
February 28, 2010 at 9:40 am
If it’s gonna take Samsung even more months to finish and release the official fw update, I’ll just have the time to be even more pissed at those guys. They promised us improvements, and we haven’t gotten them. I like to compare our phone wirh the Iphone, in that our phone has superb hardware, but shitty OS and fw. Iphone has shitty hardware, but offers a truly smooth user interface and a sleek experience.
This is frustrating, because i8910hd could and should have been so much better than the iphone, with no effort at all. Last hope would be Samsung porting Bada to our phone, but let’s see..
Samsung appears to me more and more to not be a serious company when it comes to mobile phones, and even though I love their TVs and monitors, I’m very tempted not to buy anything branded Samsung ever again.
February 28, 2010 at 12:58 pm
Samsung have more or less moved on from the i8910, us as users are stuck with what we bought. The Samsung Apps Store only supports Omnia phones, but not THIS Omnia phone, what does that tell you? And if anyone has seen the presentation they put on for the new WAVE with its BADA operating System then they’ll realize the i8910 is simply the past and the WAVE along with the BADA os they developed themselves, is the future. There’s no point crying about it, this is the world of mobile phone purchasing, Samsung have developed many phones over the last two years and most of them are in the same boat as the i8910. BADA is gonna be Samsungs serious push into the market currently dominated by the iPhone. Microsoft have developed a new Windows 7 Mobile os that’s also gonna be their big push into that same iphone dominated market. To be honest Microsofts os looks revolutionary and will be available on other phones, not just their own brand. Recently the HTC HD2 was stated to be able to upgrade to the new Windows Mobile 7 os from the old Windows Mobile 6.5 os it currently has (and that’s very nice). And then there’s the Google Nexus One phone that is outstanding and supports the New Android 2.1 os. All these new Operating Systems are supported by an Apps store so that they can make a serious opposition to the Apple dominated market. The i8910 is unfortunate to be the interim between a good intention and a well executed plan. My advice would be to hold on to your phone until the contract runs out and then consider all three new OS before jumping on the old iPhone bandwagon. I’ve opted to flash my phone to a cooked firmware for ease through the remainder of my contract, and then i’ll be either purchasing the new Google Nexus One or an HTC HD2. BADA on the new Samsung Wave is nice but its very Apple OS orientated and unless Samsung release a BADA firmware update for the i8910, then I will consider no loyalties towards purchasing another Samsung phone, even though I would still consider it. What I won’t do is buy into the Apple lifestyle just to become another mindless sheep under the control of the Apple shepherd and dominated by iTunes!
February 28, 2010 at 2:20 pm
I think you’ve wrapped it up in a nutshell Ceejay. Bye bye Samsung!
March 5, 2010 at 9:42 am
What the fuck are you talking about!
Just dont buy anything from Samsung, because they are just stupid!
They fuck you up for 500 Euro/Dollars, they sold out the product which is unusable!
Apple is not the way, but look at Sony! those phones are good!
Moreover We need to boycot Samsung until we have our money back, those kind of activities
should be punished!
February 28, 2010 at 8:16 pm
Got to agree Ceejay. The i8910 HD has the ability to be a fantastic phone, shame Samsung decided to let it go, would love to try it with the Bada OS but dont think it will happen, but then again, who knows, with Samsung anything could and does happen. One thing i will say though, i’ll never buy another anything with the Samsung logo. They have no respect for the very customers that helped put them where they are. So if you get problems with any of their items i’m not saying they wont help, but don’t be supprised if they just ignore you. Lets face it, they already have your money so why should they bother with you. They are big and don’t care, we are vey very little and unimportant!
February 28, 2010 at 8:23 pm
I am really pissed off with this shitty FW…!and waiting for updates….! this will be my last ever Samsung product. Apple IPhone would be my next phone. ppl are not mindless and under control by apple for nothing…! they have really provided the best OS and huge App store …they really care for their customers, they are not only into launching new phones all the time…!
i8910 has best and… way better hardware than iPhone…but whats the point as their is not a single app for this phone in their own app store…!
the sad thing is I still have to wait for a year until my contract with orange ends….:(
March 3, 2010 at 12:05 am
Well good luck mate, hopefully by then Apple will have turned a new leaf and made the new iPhone a lot more free to personalize without having to have to jailbreak and run the risk of being shut out of the app store completely! Apple are too dominating a company for me to ever buy their products, they don’t license any hardware or software out to other developers or manufacturers. Once you buy into that Apple lifestyle your stuck moaning about the price of everything they control that you either need or want for the rest of your days! And hopefully they’ll sort out the things apple users who finally got over the novelty of having a smooth and pretty interface suddenly realized where still a no-no with the device like.. No memory upgrade, no battery replacement without returning the entire phone for exchange, three years of development and still no decent camera with any sign of an LED or Xenon Flash, three years and finally they allowed Multimedia text messeging (THREE FREAKING YEARS!!!), GLASS LCD screen breaks EVERY-TIME, scratches EVERY-TIME, no Amoled screen, no 16:9 ration screen so all your videos play in smaller letterbox’s or cropped to fill the screen, no avi, Divx, Mpg, FLV, MKV or any other video type other than Mp4 or apples own MOV movie file playback without a jailbreak app, no noise cancellation headphones, Crap battery life, no bluetooth to any decvices other than headphones and other iPhones, 90,000 apps? yeah but that’s becasue to almost every application on the App-store there’s about 4 to 60 duplicates from different companies of the same freaking app! No Flash support in internet mode, no cut and paste function, utterly iTunes reliant, TWO YEAR phone contracts? Might as well get married! Add to all this the fact that if you jailbreak to really allow the machine to do some cool stuff, then Apple will use all their power at their disposal to shut you out from the rest of the Apple and iPhone community, this is what they spend millions on every year, new ways to force you to play within their own rules and with other iPhone users only. No matter what problems you’ve had Samsung over the i8910 consider this and what’s to come once they find ways to enforce their ways against jailbreaking. At least with the i8910, you have the freedom to flash your mobile with any firmware be it third party developed or official and still have all the above that the iPhone won’t allow. If however you honestly think all this freedom and ability is worth exchanging for a prettier graphical User Interface and the one shop visit to 90,000 mostly repeatedly cloned apps at ridiculous prices, then by all means give your money and life away to the Apple Corp for the next two years of new things to moan about and very expensive repairs for a phone that is guaranteed to break at least twice. (yes, guaranteed, everyone – EVERYONE – I know with one has broken the screen if the actual phone more than once or twice)
March 3, 2010 at 7:44 am
@Ceejay
Quality comes to a price. Apple makes high quality products. Memory upgrade? Why would you need more than 16 Gb? My wife has the 1st gen iPhone, she never put more than 2 Gb on her phone. Battery still works like in the first day.
For the struggle with the i8910 you pay with frustration, stress, anger, fury and so on. If you hate Apple, just say so. An overwhelming number of people really enjoy their products, despite their pricey tag.
P.S. I am a Nokia fan, though this is fading away since they weren’t able to come up with a real top phone like the N95 was (I still use it). Had Samsung offered excellent software support for the i8910, I would now be a huge fan of theirs.
March 3, 2010 at 8:46 pm
@Ceejay , i have become a fan of u, the way u explained IPhone facts and wording u used to explain all this, I cant just do that. coz of language barrier, but I am sure if you start explaining facts and figures for i8910 HD it would take more than one posts like this,
but still i would prefer iPhone.
finding good apps to work on ur phone is really frustrating, and some times even when u find one it doesnt work.
as far as I know about iPhone, it also has scratch poof screen.
Aspect ratio of i8910 HD is also not very good, dnt what it is exactly ….!
no doubt harware of i8910 is best, including camera and flash but still u cant only rely on hardware.
iPhone has 90 thousand repeated apps, something is better than nothing, and 90k is not only something.
Android is a good option but i will not take risk next time, I will wait for next iPhone upgrade may be iPhone 4g with multi tasking, and better camera, without flash ofcourse
March 3, 2010 at 12:46 am
Ceejay,
HEY MAN I AM YOUR NEWEST FAN HERE!!!

YES, I TOTALLY agree with ALL YOU said. Just was not coming up with words due to english is not my native. You damn got your points in every little aspect. Crap apple!
thank you very much..
HEY EVERYBODY!!! READ ABOVE by GURU CEEJAY!
March 3, 2010 at 7:28 am
Love my i8910HD, and even with the lack of support from Samsung it’s still a great piece of hardware that probably HAD a great future. Shame Samsung let it go. Hope they consider offering us a change of OS, if its possible that is. Anybody know if that kind of thing can be done on this phone?
March 4, 2010 at 8:18 am
For me, I will prefer i8910 hd.
Iphone is a good phone, but it has a fatal Flaws for me.
Poor multitasking, and can’t view flash based website.
I think by jailbraeking it, it’s the same with using cooked firmware in i8910 hd.
March 4, 2010 at 11:23 am
There are rumours about Samsung planing a relaunch of the I8910 HD Summer 2010. New Firmware + new App Store for the i8910HD coming with it.
I have no source because it was just confirmed by a Samsung Employee on the CeBit in Germany.
Maybe we are about to finally get some good news?
March 4, 2010 at 7:58 pm
thats good news if its true…!
March 5, 2010 at 6:36 pm
I dont think they gonna relaunch it, if they had plan of relaunching it they wouldnt have launched Omnia HD Gold….! which is the same piece of shit as Omnia HD….!
March 5, 2010 at 9:34 am
I’m never going to buy any Samsung telephone!
I payed 550 Euro in Juli 2009 for telephone with mature camera function, which was never work as it supposed to, audio player is unusable due to very bad sound conversion, plus NO APPS!
Samsung Omnia HD is piece of Shit!
Are they really so stupid in Korea? At least it looks that way!
And they still thinking about updates?
I want my money back!
P.S.
Fresh news: Omnia HD is unable to make decent video because the processor is too slow!
Can you imagine how stupid they are (Samsung)
Iphone? Anybody?
March 6, 2010 at 6:54 am
Is i8910hd n iphone processor not the same?
600mhz arm cortex-a8 with powersvr graphic processor?
March 6, 2010 at 8:49 pm
Guys, any offical firmware update has been released yet? I am located in the Middle East (Kuwait) and I am still running on the original firmware that came with the device when I bought it.
Software version: I8910JVIF6
Software version date: 17-Jun-09
March 7, 2010 at 1:38 am
Claus: I don’t hate Apple but I don’t like their marketing values. The restrictions and ridiculous lengths they go to in order to micro-manage the lifestyles of everyone who purchases their products, goes beyond customer care and into the realms of a Draconian Overseer! Having 16gb on a phone is one thing, capacity needs and uses is due to the needs of the individual. The point isn’t whether anyone, you or your wife should use, will use or ever need more than 16gb. The point is every single phone on the market allows you the choice to store data on a removable storage device aside from the resident memory and hard disk that might get corrupted. The point is “Choice” the very thing Apple do not want you to have becasue they are a company that wishes the least amount of third party interaction as possible with their devices and with the users of their devices. Sure the software on the iPhone was revolutionary when it first arrived three years ago and the software on the i8910 is no way as slick or well supported. But the iPhone has had its own problems since day one with both software and hardware and three years down the line it still has many of the same shortcomings and handicaps yet one year on and the only complaint most have here is that the i8919 doesn’t have software and apps as slick as the iPhone! What Phone does? Any that came out a year ago? None! Yet what phone has hardware as advanced as the i8910 today despite software and apps? Not many, that’s for sure! The i8910 has more superior hardware than the iPhone, the gulf between its still camera and video camera compared to the iPhone three years since release, is akin to the gulf between a VW Beetle and a Ferrari Testarossa ! The screen on the i8910 is perfect for viewing all formats of video in true widescreen as well unlike the 4:3 ratio of the iPhone that 3 years on has only one real good use and that’s for viewing web pages! I didn’t purchase my i8910 to collect apps, people who wanted to do that bought an iPhone! I bought my phone for the convenience of being able to store downloaded films and TV shows and watch them at my leisure on trips and lunch breaks at work without having to hack my phone or convert the video format and size to make it work! People need to stop being green-eyed about apps becasue most apps simply exist to be collected or duplicated, not actually used for any genuine benefit. I have about ten apps on my phone that i truly have any use for and a lot of games, all cost me absolutely nothing! I’m free to change my firmware and try anything I like, i’m free to expand my memory or hot-swap my microSD card for another with different music on it without fear of being locked out of iTunes or any software controlling device that my phone needs to operate or be of any use! I’m free to receive and dispatch bluetooth content to any of my friends devices as long as it isn’t an iPhone simply becasue Apple don’t want them to play with the rest of the world! And should my phone battery get damaged I can simply replace it without sending the entire device away for Apple to do it at a cost! The iPhone has its own problems so those who think getting one will ease their pains simply bought the i8910 for the wrong reasons. Yes, the iPhone has better software than my i8910 but it is in no way a better mobile phone for my daily use or the quality of what the hardware delivers as a multimedia device. Freedom is more important to me than multi-touch and an apps store! Mansoor & i8910User, thanks for your kind words, your English isn’t bad at all!
March 7, 2010 at 5:10 am
whats all the sooking about with the new firmware????
custom firmware is better than any official firmware, because the custom ones are based on the officials????
problem solved..
@ Ghramazeka: yeah there are plenty of apps..dont b lazy and look for them.
March 7, 2010 at 8:59 am
I agree, the i8910HD has the best hardware but it’s as useful as a brick because of the lack of software. Add this to the fact that Samsung has boasted HD video recording but it simply doesn’t work. Besides the fact that Samsung lied about the specifications for the default installed software on the i8910HD, your alleged limitation in the use of the iPhone is simply not true. One could have any degree of freedom one wants. Remove the software restriction by jailbreaking it and even more apps are available through Cydia and Rock (most of the people don’t even need to do this, they’re happy with what is at hand). Try and understand that the best hardware device is useless without strong software support.
So please, be objective. And by the way, a very long comment isn’t automatically a convincing one. You get quite the opposite. Noone will read it.
March 7, 2010 at 9:01 am
Sorry, my last comment was meant to be a reply for Ceejay

can any one help?
@Ceejay …. once again really nice comments, every one has their own priorities, some ppl are more into multimedia, some are more interested in apps, any way I have got a phone with very hi fi hardware with no apps, next time I would rather compromise on hardware than apps.
March 8, 2010 at 4:13 pm

any one……………….any one…………………..any one………………….!! can any one help………….!
ho could I get rid of ghost images from media library (other than deleting all one by one)
these ghost images were formed after I deleted some picture folders from mass memory ….!
March 9, 2010 at 8:39 pm
Mansoor –
- Connect your handset to your PC using the USB cable
- Select ‘mass storage’ mode
- In ‘my computer’ open the drive of your phone
- Go to Private/101f8857 and delete the Cache folder
- In the same directory create a new folder and name it ‘Cache’
- Disconnect and restart your phone and you will be free of ghost images
Peace
March 10, 2010 at 8:23 pm
Thanks Lolpoppa, but it doesnt work, I think because the ghost images are from a game warcraft2 i saved in my mass memory download folder. then I deleted the game as it did not work.

Mansoor, Had that problem myself with some photos. Ended up backing up what i wanted to keep to a micro SD and doing hard reset then re inserting the micro SD and restoring all my settings etc. It seemed to be the only way to clear them. *#7370# – Hard reset the phone. Default lock code on reset: 00000000 (8 x zeros)

Just want to suggest one handy app for managing news and podcasts UPVISE. you can download podcasts right to your phone!
At least it’s really something nice among all that jazz…

I sent a mail to Samsung in Scandinavia, they confirmed there’s going to be an update for our beloved brick in the second quarter. They said nothing about what it would contain though, if it’s just going to be a slight improvement of the UI, or if they would throw symbian out and toss in bada. So I guess we’ll just have to wait. And hope the 6 months they have used making the update will turn our phone into a teleport/time machine or something equally spectacular.
