While the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD is still a top mobile phone and still going strong thanks to all the custom firmware we have had over the past year. But Its hard to ignore Samsung’s new Android top dog, the Samsung Galaxy S. We have just recently launched our Samsung Galaxy S Forum and our new Galaxy S Users website covering the latest on this new mobile.
If your unaware why this phone is so special, its one of the first Samsung mobiles to to feature the new technology Super AMOLED screen and 1Ghz hummingbird processor. Its much clearer and brighter than our i8910 HD Amoled screen. And its packed in a slim 9.9 mm body with a nice 4 inches of screen to enjoy. And it records 720p video at 30fps, not 22-23fps. So if you are thinking of switching in the future to this mobile, why not join us?
Samsung Galaxy S Forum & Samsung i9000 Galaxy S Users
P.S No I haven’t given up on the i8910 HD yet. I’ll still use it.
Although the i8910 is a good phone, I vowed that I would never buy another Samsung phone especially considering the extreamely poor updates & disgusting customer service. Samsung abandonded the i8910 & switched to developing another phone. There is no way I would waste my hard earned cash on Samsungs latest offering, just to see them abondon it, in less than a year & move onto new revenue streams.

Hi. There is a typo in the header. Samaung instead of Samsung.
Never ever Samsung again!
I agree with polis148. Samsung has poor after sales support. Nokia has cool OVI, Sony Ericsson got cool Play Now and firmware updates. Samsung got shit!
i will never buy another samsung smartphone… and i want my omnia hd with android.. i expend 700€ in a BRICK. they thief me.
You don;t like Samsung galaxy s???
I will be getting the Galaxy S, why? Well because it’s an Android device more than it is a stand-alone Samsung product. The i8910 is a great phone that had a lousy operating system and just as lousy support from Samsung. True, but at the end of the day, with third party operating systems like Hyper X’s I still got a lot of mileage out of the device and the essentials that I purchased it for still out-performed any other phone on the market until now! Here’s the facts:
1: The i8910 was the first to have an Amoled screen, virtually unscratchable too, not to mention a proper 16:9 ratio!
2: The i8910 had the best media playpack for video files, just transfer and instant playback, way less converting needed in general!
3: The i8910 had the best speaker sound after the Nokia 5800.
4 The i8910 was the first to have 720p video recording, it took over a year for the other phones to catch-up on the market.
5: The i8910 although not supported with the thousands of apps you’d get on an iPhone has still cost me £0.00 pence for the many useful and essential apps and games that I have actually acquired!
So in the end of the day, it’s by far the best mobile device I’ve ever had, way better than any phone on the market at the time and only now (18 months later) is it being out performed in any of its actual specs! The advent of Android operating systems changes everything for mobile devices. It means I don’t have to rely on Samsung for support so my issues I had with the i8910 will not be the same with the Galaxy. I can purchase the phone and still enjoy the freedom of being able to download my own films and TV shows and watch them on the phone without converting. Plus I still have 720p recording, a far more superior operating system that is truly fast and smooth with multi touch and pinch to zoom and already over 100, 000 apps on the Android store to chose from. I also have a way better and bigger screen than any on the market (apple’s retina display is pretty but small and practically still 4:3 ratio in a world of 16:9 programming, lol!)
A lot of people here were just pissed off with the i8910 for not having as nice an operating system as the iPhone but the fact is technically the i8910 was and in many ways still is a superior phone than both the iPhone 3G and 4G. The Galaxy is superb, the only fault I can give it is the lack of an LED flash but I can live with that since it beats everything other phone in every single other department. I’m due an upgrade next month and i’ll be getting the Galaxy based on all these facts unless they announce that the Motorola Droid X or HTC Evo is coming to the UK. They’re the only other two devices i’ll even remotely consider over the Galaxy!
Sounds to me like Ceejay works for Samsungs Marketing Department. The problem I have with all Samsung products (Freezers, TV’s washing machines ect ect ect) is that they are renowned for having VERY POOR customer service. Although their products look flash, try getting the problem resolved if you require a part or need to speak to customer service, their service is far from satisfactory (I’m speaking from experiance) The new Galaxy S may be an all singing & dancing phone, but if the software develops bugs. It will probaly be down to the hackers & modders community to sort it out. As Samsung will wash thier money grabbing hands of it & move onto the next flashy phone. Although I would never buy an iphone at least Apple had the decency to acknowledge the iphone 4 had problems, promise to rectify the situation & appease their loyal fan base with a free phone case. Samsung suck & will not win me over.
Sounds to me like polis148 works for Apple’s Marketing Department. The problem i have with all Apple Products (computers, Laptops, phones, tablets, etc etc) is that they are renowned for their fragile builds despite their pretty aesthetics. Also the crazy limits they go to exercise control over how you use the over-priced devices they make is extreme. No memory cards, no Bluetooth to other devices except Headphones or speakers, no Flash support on the the internet, no support for other video codecs except their own and a heavy price to pay should you “jail-break” any device in order to free it from the fascist control of the mighty Apple corporation’s intended lifestyle they want you to belong to.
They make ONE phone device for the entire year, it plays catch-up to all the standard features of other mobile phones that come before it yet they market these features to people as if they are brand new. My 2nd mobile had a 3G video calling front camera in it back in 2004, today they market this feature as if it’s a new invention! My friends sister had a Samsung Q1 tablet pc back in 2006! Today Apple market their Tablet computer as nothing more than a glorified iPod Touch with all the same limitations and insane prices to go with the usual lack of Flash support, lack of memory card compatibility, lack of USB connection for third party devices, lack of Webcam, lack of a kickstand and as usual the same dependability on iTunes to control how and what you put on the device.
In my shop the iPad has outsold anything and everything in the last few weeks. But it’s also been the most returned item due to people realizing they have no use for it and merely bought it becasue it was marketed as the next new thing you simply have to have! Anyone who’s had a real computer, a netbook or a decent phone with internet and multimedia capability will wonder what the hell they need an iPad for after they buy it!
As for the iPhone, it doesn’t have a patch on my new Samsung Galaxy, yes i got my upgrade early and have had it for two days now. It’s superb, runs the i8910 into the ground as well as the iPhone 4G. The display is outstanding on the iPhone, i’ll admit that but it is the same small screen as in every iphone for the last 4 years and it’s still only a step away from 4:3 ratio rather than any real widescreen standards of other devices like true 16:9 or even 14:9. The video calling can only work on a wifi network and also only to another iPhone, sounds familiar? Bluetooth only allowed to other iPhones etc etc? Literally its a “you belong to us now, you buy only the support items we make and you play only with the kids we allow you too and how we allow you too” big brother strategy that is right out of a 50′s sci fi flick! The Samsung Galaxy is Android, it’s thousands of apps, all as good or even better than what you’ll get on the iPhone and its software is miles ahead in quality. It’s a completely different world from the i8910, i can simply speak into the microphone and it transforms the speech in to text for a sms msg or a search string for google, AND IT WORKS!! The video player can handle avi, mpg, Flv, Mkv and Wmv without hassle or reconverting like on the iphone! The device is also as light as a feather and slender as hell. Next to the HTC Desire, it has the best looking operating system i’ve ever seen on a mobile device and surfing the internet on it is faster than even on my home PC! Even without an LED flash it still takes good pictures with a night-mode selection on it multi featured camera.
Quite simply you can go the iPhone route after the experience with the i8910, your choice. But unlike most Samsung products I don’t like (their LED TV’s and LCD’s have the worst colour accuracy) Their mobile phones have always been innovative for features if not software. The Galaxy is a whole different ball game, it’s Android, it’s a superior OS than you’d ever get from a stand alone Samsung device so don’t expect to have the same issues with this mobile as you did with the Omnia HD, and NO, I don’t work for Samsung but i’m not a massive fan of Apples marketing strategy either!
Dude you put up a mighty fine argument for the Galaxy S & I totally agree with you regarding Apples “Big Brother” marketing strategy that’s why I’m not sucked it by their products & I don’t believe the hype. I will take a look at the Galaxy S when my contract is up & who knows maybe it might win me over.
I agree with your two replys. I have the Galaxy S for three weeks now and the only thing I can say is WOW, unbelieveable. You have to use it yourself to know hw awesome this phone is. BTW i have the 16GB version with an extra 16GB microsd card installed just like my i8910HD
I do love my Omnia i8910HD becuase of its screen, stereo audio, camera and build quality. And I even like my Omnia II because of it’s weihgt and being slim dispite the WM 6.5 os. But the Galaxy S combines BOTH PHONES in one and is even far more faster in everything you do. And than there is the Android Market which is a blessing for us Samsung users!
I still keep using the 8910HD though because of the constant updates from Andy (HyperX) which really makes all the difference for this wonderful phone. As I am from the Netherlands and Andy always makes a localized version from his roms, it’s way better than Samsung ever could do. Shame on Samsung for the support for the 8910HD. Same for the Omnia II though.
@pollis148
Boy, you’ve got to try this phone! Once you have I’m sure you buy it no mather how long your contract still runs. It’s just awesome!! No way the fruit seller can outrun this one this time!
Ain’t there a PhoneHouse store where you can try it for a week and change it for an other if it doesn’t live up to your expectations? Here in the Netherlands we do have that option.
Hi Kath wish we had that option what an excellent idea. But I could take a look at it in my phone shop next week. Is it really that good ?
Had a long play with the Galaxy S today, great looking phone. But its top dog for one reason, and one reason only.
Android.
Yes, Samsungs after sales support is shit, I’ll be the first to yell that out in a room full of samsung officials. I still love my i8910, all thanks going to HyperX for the firmware but never in my life will a samsung device find its way into my pocket, much less be taking hard earned money from my bank account. This is not the first time they’ve gone all out on a phone “of the future” only to ditch it 8-12 months later for a new one. They do this each and every time and frankly, I am sick of it. Certainly, I assume I am not alone in thinking this.
As mentioned above, the Galaxy is a great device for ONE REASON. Google android. This software is far in a way equal to apples, and better in that file sharing is prevalent. Wait, no. Its leagues above the iphone software, and its expanding, growing continually in support and features.
Samsung need to up their game, because in the next 6 months, Android will find its way into other phone carriers, those which are tons better than Samsung.
Before going out to purchase this phone, be it only for the android software, first consider the HTC alternative. Thats is all.
Yes, it’s really that good! But like Tim wrote, not because of the Samsung ‘service’ but the combination of Samsung for the hardware and Android for the os. HTC may have very good phones, but personaly I think Samsung has the better hardware for now.
Perhaps there is ONE little shortcoming for those interested in the Galaxy S who are into taking pictures a lot in dark conditions though: The Galaxy S lacks a flash.
But for me the ‘night setting’ is fine if I really do have to take a picture in the dark (can’t remember ever wanted to do that) Only tried it to see what it looks like.
In fact: How many of us, the i8910HD users, have used the phone for taking pictures in dark conditions anyway?
And for once this time I believe Samsung that there will be an update to Android 2.2 Froyo soon for all Galaxy models.
The Galaxy may lack a flash and I guess they omitted it to keep the slim aesthetics, but it does have a night mode in the many photographic selections, it’s not as potent as having a real flash but it can allow better photo’s in minimal light conditions, just not for the total dark!
The Samsung hardware and software for this phone is actually very exceptional, i have to disagree with Tim (sorry Tim). The media player that Samsung have in this phone is the best of all the Android phones so far and its becasue it’s running upgraded version of the media player from the i8910. It plays xvid/divx avi, mpg, mkv, flv, wmv and in high res too!
They also have their own processor running this device and its just as fast as the snapdragon all the others are using as almost standard. The camera has awesome Samsung software running it with a host of features you only find on dedicated devices like smile detection, touch screen focus etc.
This device is light as hell, slim and light to be exact, nothing on the market comes close with the sheer quality of the screen. That super Amoled screen is unlike anything on any device and I’ve done a side by side comparison with my work-mates iPhone 4G’s “retina display”. Samsung’s screen is both bigger and brighter regardless of how many pixels the squeeze into the iPhone. When you watch movies on this device, EVERYONE is blown away at how great it looks!
There are other cool Samsung stuff like the threaded txt message’s that look so much better than any i’ve seen on other devices including the iPhones! The cooliris style Gallery with ultra smooth pinch to zoom. When you miss a call or get a txt message, your home screen picture turns into a jigsaw puzzle with a missing piece that’s highlighted with the notification. You simply slide the piece back into its place and the message or missed call appears! It has Video output at 720p high definition too, it has Bluetooth 3.0 which is ultra fast and much wider ranged too. DLNA streaming of content to other devices and can also be used as a wireless hub for other devices (no the iPhone can’t do either) and unlike the iPhone you can do a video call on your network to any phone, not just to iPhones on a wireless feed (Barmy!)
Ad to this you have the choice of two apps markets with Samsungs widgets and apps as well as the sheer volume of Android apps and games available, and you have an awesome, fully customizable device. And I mean fully customizable! I have 7 scrollable screens with way better widgets than I had on the i8910 as well as picture frames of loved ones to highlight selected screens, screens devoted to the football news and latest scores, screens devoted to my movies with updated listings from my local cinema etc. It’s like having a computer in your pocket that also calls phones numbers! And if you haven’t used one yet, then the internet browsing will blow you away, nothing like the clunky, pedestrian browser on the i8910, this is fast and smooth, and it has a Flash option to run in the browser with ultra slick pinch-to-zoom!
Samsung have done a good job with this phone, Android makes it world class but the hardware is truly excellent by Samsung. Not having to rely on them for all the software is simply a major plus as to be honest, the Hardware on the i8910 was never its main problem. No matter what experiences you had with the Omnia HD, the Galaxy S or the WAVE are both awesome upgrades from our old devices. I went with the Galaxy becasue of Android support, the Wave is equally as well made and it has a flash but the Galaxy has a bigger screen and Android so for my video-viewing lifestyle it won outright! Either way, as much as I hated Samsung for the shite support on the i8910 (thanks HyperX for the decent firmware) I have to give them credit for the initial job on the Galaxy S, it’s excellent! ..that said, I still kinda envy the Yanks for having the HTC Evo and the Motorola Droid X, both of those are stunning!
Very well said Ceejay! After four weeks of intensive use I fully agree. Oh, I’m so in love with my Galaxy S (is that possible btw?)
I also did an update to HX7-15 because I still love my 8910HD so much. Why the heck can’t someone port Android to the 8910HD? That would be a real ‘custom-update’ !
FOUR WEEKS?!! I’ve only had mine for two and I’m still finding new stuff on it. Forgot to mention how cool the live-wallpaper is too, but it’s also a battery life drainer on this gorgeous screen. I still have my i8910 but its gonna get ebayed real soon! Sorry, had a great time with the Omnia HD, but now I’m off to explore the vast regions of the Galaxy! XXX
I got the GT i9000S and its been a pain for 2 days. The Samsung app store does not support this device. I dont know the reason why but an ultimate shattering experience. Samsung has neev been a customer centric branmd rather i would say it makes good devices with no proper history of support or solution. Android could have better partners to deal with.
Just for the record, The Samsung Galaxy S i900 just won the much coveted EISA award for the best smartphone of the year, this award was previously won by the iPhone 3Gs last year. ..did someone say iPhone killer?
I need help with my Galaxy S , Is it possible to delete from your recent messages ?? for example , click on Messaging / New Message / Recent. This shows you all the people you have text or called but how do you delete this ?? Apart from this what a great phone to use so much better that the I Phone..

Where have you gone Kath…… After reading your coments about the Galaxy S phone hopefully you will be able to help me with my question. Hurry up back on line hahahah Scott
Hi Scott,
If you go to ‘Messages’ (from the home screen) you’ll see all msgs you’ve send/received. From here you click the msg you want to delete and click the ‘extra’ (left soft button) Now you can delete the msg
Hiya Kath, Thank you for coming back to me, Sorry the problem I have is deleting from the recent list , So if you click Messaging (from the home screen) then press new message(compose new message) then click recent you will get the list there of all people you have text and called, thats what I would like to delete but there is no funtion to do this.
You’re right! I never ran into this glitch so it slipped my attention.Let’s hope it’s fixed with Froyo.
See thats what I get from being bored at work messing about with the phone !!…now its going to annoy me…lol..Oh well thanks for your help

Hello, Mugen Power just released the 3200mAh Samsung i9000 extended battery, it should be enough for 2-3 days use with 1 charge! http://mugen.hk/mugen-power-3200mah-extended-battery-for-samsung-galaxys-i9000.html
and if you visit their page on facebook, you can find a discount code: http://www.facebook.com/MugenPowerBatteries
I promised myself that I dont waste anymore money to this company, not after what they “did” to updates of Omnia HD. If HTC:s custom service/updates work, i think to give a try to this companys next phone “Ace/Desire HD” or whatever its called. No more Samsung, not ever.
Just to put these number in perspective, Apple sells 8M iPhones a quarter. If Samsung really manages to sell 10M Galaxy S by the end of the year, it’ll sell around 30% as many Androids as Apple sells iPhones. Now, apple might increase the iPhone sales rate, but we need to remember that the Galaxy only came out in the second quarter. Very impressive achievement for Samsung.
You got to be kidding! When did Apple have the “decency to acknowledge” they had a flawed antenna design on the iPhone 4? Initially, they blamed the users for not holding it right. Then, they started to blame AT&T’s network. Then, they stated, “all phones lose signal when held over the antenna,” and went about trying to prove their claims. Then, when people started to get pi-ssed off with the reception issues, they went about distributing free bumpers. Never do I recall them ever having acknowledged they had a flawed design issue.
Don’t know why you find it poor. So far, Samsung have provided me with excellent service, both for my television set and computer monitor. This is the first time I’ve bought a Samsung handset, though, and I’m yet to see how their service is in terms of mobile phones. However, judging by the excellent service they’ve given me on other products, I do remain optimistic on this.
I agree with you on the display front. Samsung’s Super AMOLED is just amazing, better than anything I’ve seen! The colors just pop out at you! I downloaded a few videos, particularly that “marine life” one you got to see so often in the prototype reviews, and whoever I showed them to was simply stunned by the display. It’s just so much fun to watch movies on.
Hi problem in samsung galaxy s i9000
Each time I try to download appbrain on my phone, I find error 404 and page not found. I do not have baracode scanner in my phone. The android market is not available on kies. Please help me how I can install applications ?
I am using samsung galaxy for the first week and everything’s amazing in it software aswell as hardware but the problem is that we are not receiving any cases and screen protectors for this mobile. Why the screen protectors and the cases are not being made this is the wonderful phone it will top the sale.
Hi Narendra there are lots of accessories for the Galaxy S on ebay, I brought a rubber case, screen protector plus 3 x “1930mah” batteries for mine. All very cheap, it a try.

Just recently upgraded my Galaxy S from Android 2.1-1 to 2.2 but had to hack the phone first, as Kies software really sucked & wouldn’t do it the easy way. But the hassle was well worth it. No matter what Apple fans think we truely now have an iphone beater. BOUT TIME !!!
My Samsung Galaxy I9000 phone has worked fine since the end of September 2010. I have 2 e-mail accounts, one with BT and the other with another company who host my business web site. The BT account works fine on my mobile. It is the ‘other’ account which has stopped (as of the 21 December) working in so far as it neither sends or receives e-mails. I have no problem using this account via my laptop but it will no longer work correctly via my mobile.
What happens is that when I go into Applications–>e-mail and select my business e-mail it automatically tries to refresh and after several seconds it returns the message “Sorry, The application Email (process com.android.email) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.” Force Close.
I have tried many times to repeat this process and it always results in the same message whether it uses the wireless route via my router or whether it uses GSM.
I have checked the account settings, which are the same as my laptop.
I have tried to create a new account with these same settings and after entering the data and selecting Next in the setup process it returns the message “Setup could not finish. Unable to open connection to server.”
I am at a loss to understand why it should no longer work as I have not changed any of the phone settings and my account with my ISP on my laptop works as normal.
Can anyone help.
Regards,
Alan
I have had a Galaxy S since September 2010 and loved it but i recently upgraded the operating software and the supposed upgrade is crap especially when it comes to contacts. I used to be able to put in the new contact first name, last name, if it was a moblie or home or work number and i could add other numbers but not now. I’m very dissapointed and would like to go back to the old system. Can this be done?
jack
Hi, Jack Head, I have just recently upgraded my Galaxy S to the latest OS Gingerbread 2.3.3 and it is awesome smooth and fast. The lag problem is gone and there isn’t any problem with the Contacts.
I haven’t given up on the Omnia HD either, but I would like help with my problems with it, somehow, when I wondered why no-one helped me on the forums, I logged in only to find I have been banned for spamming? did someone hack my account? why wasn’t I notified of the ban and given a chance to answer? I still am having firmware issues and now my facebook mobile is giving me problems too. Given that I admin forums myself and am a member of many, and have never spammed anyone, ever, I can only assume my account was hacked or there was a mistake? Please contact me via the above email address, thankyou,
cat

i have a galaxy i9000… i downloaded samsung new pc and i cant find it on ma settings on my phone to connect it to my phone. i duno where to look.. need help if anyone nows where i can find it thanks sammie
To connect/update you’re I9000 you’ll need KIES from Samsung; NOT New PCStudio. Be aware though KIES can have issues with connecting your phone.
To avoid problems, MAKE SURE you DELETE the old Samsung stuff like New PCStudio and all old Samsung and I8910 drivers trough Start>configuration>software>delete. If you’ve got one, use a registry cleaner to be sure.
Now download KIES from the Samsung site and install on your pc. Once installed, connect your phone to the pc and there will be a pop-up saying there will be installed a couple op drivers.
Let the process finish and you’re ready to go. You’ll be able to update KIES and the phone software (if an update for your phone is available) and use all functions of the KIES software.
I loved your post.Really looking forward to read more. Really Great.
