Petition for Samsung to improve i8910 Omnia HD firmware

samsung i8910 report

While we have had our fair share of improvements via custom firmware as of late, some would say Samsung haven’t done enough to address the issues in the current release firmware. Or look at perhaps porting Android over to the i8910. Give users the option of the buying the phone with either two operating systems. Android or Symbian. Sounds like a good idea right?

Well forum user Anphase has decidid to take this up with Samsung, he’s posted an online petition. Asking for Samsung to improve on the firmware and looking at a possible Andriod port for the phone. There are over two thousand signatures now and if you think Samsung should focus on the i8910 and its firmware why not check out the forum post. While your at it sign the petition too.

Anphase has also done some hard work, writting up a huge report with photos on the issues with the phone and its current firmware. One of the larger ones being the 720p HD video isn’t its advertised 24fps. Its more or less 22 fps or less at times. Us i8910 users are slightly disappointed in.

Finally some attention, this phone would be a killer with Android. If Samsung can’t port Android on it for contract reasons with Symbian then why not update our phones to Symbian^3. Just give out one new firmware (Symbian^3) instead of releasing diff updates in diff regions. Im sick of the lack of support for this phone. Our over $600 investment should payoff!!!

What Samsung should do is give out an option for owners who wish to switch from Symbian to Bada as the OS on the i8910 , Bada is after all Samsungs own system and where they will focus their efforts for the future.

You guys are being overly optimistic, although i am happy to see the progress of this petition by it being announced on this website in a somewhat unbiased manner i don’t think the omnia hd was much of an “investment” as Hassan mentioned. I am just an average user of the i8910 and i face the problems mentioned in the report constantly and i have phoned samsung about this matter on several occasions and continue to tell me they are creating a firmware adressing the problems.

Well that’s intresting because there is no official news or information you are doing anything at this point in time to adress the problems and you have been telling me the same thing for over 4 months now!

I’m glad we have reached over 2000 maybe we can get “over 9000″ heheh.. but seriously another issue is that i can tell some people are double signing and putting fake names..(please guys this is a serious petition).

I think symbian is great.. i’m so used to it BUT it has many flaws to do with loading time, lagg, etc

i think the main issues for me are

    1. Camera
    2. kinetic scrolling
    3. lack of codec
    4. lack of support
    5. lagg and loading times

(those were in no particular order)

I really hope samsung will fix these issues and if they do i will continue to buy from them.. and if they don’t … well then they can count my business with them goodbye and i shall say hello to nokia or apple!

Well, I signed it and also people I know that have i8910 signed it. Spreading the word for the benefit of everyone even if they’re not directly involved (i.e: people who don’t even know what to expect from this phone or never had smartphone before) or think they have no problems with it – IS A MUST. For god sake, wake up and spread the word. If this thing remains as it is now, Samsung market strategy won with every new phone they release!!!

By their strategy I mean this: release great hardware with flaky software, make some fake advert. videos, pay for good reviews, pull customer noses and stay silent as long as you can, and when they realize they’re screwed release yet 2 more phones and never look back!.

Don’t let this happen. Sign the petition and call your local country Samsung representative stating your i8910 is not what they advertised!!! Act now or be dumb forever!!!

At the beginning I was very happy withi 8910 omnia, but I gradually found out that it was not the one I was looking for. I paid 600 EUR and soon could find out that such price was at least double the one I would have ever paid for what had been ofered. The reason? The Producer!!!! Samsung does not give a damn on our “begging” for a new ORIGINAL firmware!!! There is an (unofficial) chinese, Russian, and so one firmware! what about us others waiting for a REAL SUPPORT for an original firmware…
I am not only planing to buy another android, but also to make a negative advertising on SAMSUNG other products, whatever it is!!!

I am glad that an on going petition is already up and I have signed it too. Omania HD is my first Samsung after years with Nokia. What Samsung have on Omnia HD is more sales oriented that most people who buy are left hang to dry from lack of support and needed accessories. Car charger is not even available for purchase in the Philippines that I have to source it with other compatible brand and model such as Nokia 8600/ 6500/ 5610 / 5310/ 7900/ N81/ N82 which all use micro USB.

Samsung has a huge potential I hope this would not be my last Samsung phone, because I am seriously thinking of scouting for other brands.

i8910 is really great but I really want from Samsung to fix these few things:
    - Full keyboard on normal screen
    - Improve the graphic engine and make great 3D games
    - Add dual touch
    - …
Like apple , Samsung must make lots of applications for i8910, apple make every mambo jambo applications for Iphone and i think we have really better device than iphone, so I want from Samsung make my device better than any other phons.

I have had my Samsung Omnia for almost a year and a half and love it. I find that it still does everything that I need it to do. But like all technology, it becomes a little older and doesn’t seem as fast as the new devices… especially the ones with Android on them.

I tinkered with trying the different “cooked” up Windows 6.5 operating systems on it only to be disappointed because something was missing like Office, PDF reader,… always something. Then I thought, maybe someone has made Android work on it.

I found that there was an overlay that looked like Android, but wasn’t it. I then found the website where a bunch of people have put up money like a reward for someone to develop Android for it. I certainly understand why when looking at the bigger and bulkier Samsung Omnia II. It just is not as cool as the first Omnia’s.

I have been running the Samsung Today on it without the customizable widget bar. I like it, but it still is not as fast as Android. There is something everyone is missing that wants Android on their phone. The newest phones have more processor speed and more RAM on them. More than 4 time the amount. Therefore when someone finally gets Android to work perfectly, they will be sadly disappointed as the phone is outdated and can’t keep up. Not only that, they battery life will be diminished greatly.

Instead of trying to turn a pumpkin into a race car, let’s just pay a little more and get the race car today. This will certainly eliminate the ongoing hassle and aggravation in the meantime. And here is my solution…

The Samsung i7500 Galaxy with Android on it! This phone is amazing! It is almost the exact same size and weight as the Omnia, but has all of the features that we desire in an Android Phone. We still have a 5MP camera, but we also have a 1GB processor and a 1GB of RAM!

Now let’s see what this baby can do and escape from the limits of 5GB/month data to unlimited data, unlimited text and unlimited calls! That sounds like it would cost a fortune. The good news is it is only $89.95 a month including taxes, but it can even get better. That is when you refer 3 people to be customers and your service is FREE for as long as there are 3 people using our service.

A cancellation fee is nothing when you don’t have to pay for your cell phone ever again. The average bill is over $100/mo and the cancellation fee is under $150 if you had your phone for a few months. Therefore you would be saving a ton of money by canceling and getting 3 people wanting to do the same. That’s right; we will allow them the same opportunity as well.

If you think that this is good, then possibly you would like to do this to make some extra money too. You can find all of this information on my website: http://www.savingwithmarcus.com and then clicking on the Cell Bill Eliminator tab at the top.

yea I’m in AUS an just purchased a new car audio head unit. An went to connect it up via blue tooth an i decides not to work. To make matters worse i asked WOW an they turned around an asked me to bring it in, so I did. The guy jumped in the car an connected the IPHONE straight away. where as the i8910 didn’t work at all. My mate has a lower model samsung an even that worked straight away.

What i want to know how can i fix the problem if there is no update to help me ?? And why the hell everything tech atm is all about Iphone shitty things wht bout our phone ?? it’s just as good, well that’s just my opinion.
