Omnia HD Preview: Many questions answered
Samsung Omnia HD MircoSD slot is confirmed!

Samsung Omnia HD external MircoSD slot is in!

New Preview’s from All About Symbian have answered many questions for would be Samsung Omnai HD owners. Many of our questions where: Does the Omnia HD have an external MircoSD slot? Yes it does one side (see photo). Great, the Original Omnia missed that feature. And the the battery life? 3 hours recording in 720hd and 4.3 hours for watching movies. Pheeeww! Firstly we heard reports it was only about 30mins recording HD. and about 1 & 1/2 hours video. Glad that has been addressed since the early prototype models.

The Omnia HD has two variants, one with 8GB internal flash (mass) memory, the other with 16GB and there’s 100MB or so of internal flash memory (for the ‘C’ disk). Both versions have the SDHC compatible microSD memory card support (official support up to 16GB, most likely 32GB too), which should be sufficient for most power users. Probably because of the requirements of handling HD video, there’s a massive 256MB of dynamic RAM, with over 160MB free after booting.

Unfortunately there is no protection over that glass lens

Also looking at the back of the unit, we now see the metalic back has now changed to be a plastic backing and unfortunately there is no protection over that 8mp lens apart from the glass….Real shame that its. Samsung if your read – Please get this sorted! We would love to have the lens protected and not become a smudge and dust magnet!

The back of the device, which is covered with a hard, glossy plastic, houses the Omnia HD’s 8 megapixel, autofocus camera and an accompanying LED flash. Opening the battery cover reveals a 1500 mAh battery. A big battery is clearly a must for such a device and we’ll be making a careful note of battery performance once we get a review device. Day to day, it should comfortably last 24 hours, but any power intensive activity such as watching or recording video is going to have a significant impact. For example, the specifications note a 3 hour HD recording time, but in real world conditions will almost certainly be less than that, similarly video playback time is quoted at 4.3 hours (for 720p HD) which means watching a movie will probably use up most of a fully charged battery.

Kroll on the Omnia HD, Move over ipod touch & PSP!

Kroll on the Omnia HD, Move over ipod touch & PSP!

We heard the Omnia HD would be great at games, due to its dedicated GPU able to handle Open GL ES 2.0 with easy. Just look at the above screen shot. That game could compete with the Ipod touch games no worries!

All about Symbians review is Definatly worth the read if your interested in this moblie phone.

I would like to ask if the omnia hd has an auto-rotating screen like the i900 omnia were you can even put it in a landscape on the main menus and the main frontpage by just tilting it?
